Turkana county is one of the largest counties in Kenya by land mass. Located in the Northern part of Kenya, Lodwar being the major town in the northern region, being 419 miles 675 kms from Nairobi.
Out of the passion for Turkana, DFL Board Members visited several places to share God’s love and distribute foodstuff. One of the villages visited was Koono village. This particular village (Koono) which is located approximately 70kms (43miles) off-road from Lodwar, is a dry area occasioned by extended seasons of drought. Water resources are minimal, and various attempts for drilling have been futile. Women and children, who are the main drawers of water walk for hours to far away places for water sources or dig in dry river beds which often don’t yield, and when they do the water is contaminated.
DFL Board members, having visited the place were touched by the need and promised the community a well. And this year, having commissioned the project to begin, the drilling team headed out to Koono. The Journey was not all smooth, as we encountered bumpy roads, no roads, mechanical breakdowns, high temperatures and hours of getting stuck in the sand, but that would not deter us from reaching our destination.
Drilling finally kicked off, with great success, having obtained a good yield at only 100metres and close enough to the community. Special thanks goes to Earl Weaver for donating towards this community project, the DFL drilling team and all who made this project successful.
