Mumboha Borehole Project

|
The borehole was a project of the Ministry of Water and Irrigation to supplement the existing unreliable domestic water sources of Emuhaya District in Western Kenya. It was drilled at Mumboha Primary School, which shares a fence with the sister secondary school. Previous water sources included nearby springs, streams, waterholes and a few scattered boreholes.
Existence of boulders in the underground formation made it quite a challenge for the drilling team. A process that would have taken just about 4days ended up lasting almost three weeks - May 24th to 11th June 2009. The drilling team got stuck at 30m (98ft) and had to use a different method of getting to the desired 100m (328ft) depth. At the end it was successful with a yield of 6.5m3/hr.
The borehole is going to serve both the Primary and Secondary School. It was a delight to transform the lives of so many kids by giving them access to clean potable water
